At the Warnemünde Science and Technology Centre with a gross area of 4.000 m², there are around 60 companies working in close contact with the technology park and the Frauenhofer Institute for Graphical Data Processing. The IT Initiative M-V promotes products and services on a state-wide basis by initiating cooperation between companies, universities and research facilities. Service Centres receive active support, particularly through the association Telemarketing Imitative M-V e.V. which aims to bundle the interests of the individual businesses involved.

Rostock possesses very well-educated specialists at competitive wages who, in addition to having the language qualifications for communication centres also possess the necessary knowledge and skills in IT professions. Tourism
Together with the Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde, Rostock is the tourism centre of the Northeast. A very pleasant mixture exists here of the nearby sea, the beach and great sailing waters, together with the urban variety of the city and pristine nature of the surroundings. Large-scale entertainment and classical cultural events, complemented by the `free culture scene´, create a variety that attracts visitors from far beyond the city limits, - and due to increasing cruise and ferry tourism, an increasing proportion of visitors from abroad.

Over a dozen spas and beachfront hotels make the Hanseatic City a favourite for recreation and relaxation. Regardless of the type of holiday sought - wellness, health or city holiday - the tourism sector is one of the driving forces of the economy. Over 45 hotels with a total of nine 4-5 star hotels are ready to welcome tourists and convention visitors. With the opening of the marina, Rostock now has excellent conditions for sailing as well as a unique maritime convention centre. The attractive skyline of the Hanseatic City of Rostock is the setting for numerous events of international importance. At the Hanse Sail, which takes place on the second weekend in August each year, around 200 tall ships and traditional sailing ships can be seen in the waters around Rostock, attracting over one million visitors.
