Tourism
Together with the Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde, Rostock is the tourism centre of the Northeast. A very pleasant mixture exists here of the nearby sea, the beach and great sailing waters, together with the urban variety of the city and pristine nature of the surroundings. Large-scale entertainment and classical cultural events, complemented by the `free culture scene´, create a variety that attracts visitors from far beyond the city limits, - and due to increasing cruise and ferry tourism, an increasing proportion of visitors from abroad.

Over 45 hotels with a total of nine 4-5 star hotels are ready to welcome tourists and convention visitors. With the opening of the marina, Rostock now has excellent conditions for sailing as well as a unique maritime convention centre. The attractive skyline of the Hanseatic City of Rostock is the setting for numerous events of international importance. At the Hanse Sail, which takes place on the second weekend in August each year, around 200 tall ships and traditional sailing ships can be seen in the waters around Rostock, attracting over one million visitors.
