On September 5th, 2005, the new Lidl logistics centre located in the industrial park “Hafenvorgelände – Ost” in Rostock was inaugurated. Dr. Otto Ebnet, Minister for Economic Affairs of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Roland Methling, Mayor of the city of Rostock, were present at the ceremony. The Lidl logistics centre is situated on a lot comprising approximately 89,000 m², of which the buildings encompass approximately 30,500 m². The ideal traffic connections as well as the possibility to carry out the development in a short time were the main factors influencing the decision by Lidl to select this location. With its ports, its geographical location between major cities and its excellent traffic infrastructure, Rostock provides ideal conditions for this logistics centre. Beginning 01 November, 2005, around 65 stores in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg will be supplied by this logistics centre. The size of the facility itself as well as the modern technology installed enables the logistics centre to accommodate the supply to additional stores as well, allowing Lidl to continue to successfully expand in these regions in the coming years.
