Rostock was again in the spotlight from 6 - 9 August 2009 with the traditional and most important maritime event of the year for the Hanseatic City and surrounding region. The 19th Hanse Sail drew hundreds of thousands of visitors to the quays at the town harbour and Warnemünde, all wanting to catch a glimpse of magnificent ships and experience the flair surrounding the event.
Perhaps not quite as rich in tradition, but nonetheless a well-established complementary event, "Business Meets Hanse Sail" again took place against the backdrop of the 19th Hanse Sail. Rostock Business, the company for the promotion of business and technology for the Hanseatic City of Rostock has organized this business event since 2004. In collaboration with Invest in MV, the business development agency for the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Rostock Business played host to over 400 decision-makers in business, politics, and science / research.
"Business Meets Hanse Sail" is a high-caliber business event showcasing the region and its attractiveness to companies and investors. Friday’s reception with the mayor of the Hanseatic City of Rostock at the concert hall 207, the Sail Brunch at the hotel Yachthafenresidenz Hohe Düne on Saturday, and the sailing trip on Saturday evening were the highlights of the program, bringing together local VIPs and guests to the city. Well-known figures in business and politics such as Minister President Erwin Sellering, Minister for the Economy Jürgen Seidel, Thomas Richterich (Nordex AG), Stefan Thiele (EnBW Erneuerbare Energien GmbH), Dr.-Ing. E. h. Martin Herrenknecht (founder of Herrenknecht AG), and Markus Marschall (Diehl Aerosystems Holding GmbH), took part in the diverse events and addressed the high-profile audience.
This business promotion and networking event "Business Meets Hanse Sail" reinforces the increasing significance of north-eastern Germany as an attractive location for business and investment. A prime example is the wind energy industry which has experienced impressive growth in the past few years and attracts considerable investment. “Over the past six years, Business Meets Hanse Sail has substantially contributed to the promotion of the attractiveness of Rostock as a business location, and represents an important channel for winning investors for our region,” comments Roland Methling, Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Rostock.
“Rostock is a beacon for business in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The economic prosperity of Rostock and its spread to the surrounding region is crucial for the entire state,” remarks Jürgen Seidel, Minister for the Economy. “The significance of Business Meets Hanse Sail as an instrument to promote the city and region is growing from year to year. Business and politics unite in a maritime setting to broaden horizons.”
The "Business Meets Hanse Sail" event is only made possible by the support of strong partners. In addition to Invest in MV, the company for the promotion of business in Mecklenburg Vorpommern and "MV tut gut", the marketing society for the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, numerous regional companies are involved in the event’s success.
