South Baltic OFFER: Project partners formalize mutual commitment

On 10 June 2010 in Nykøbing/Guldborgsund, Denmark, a partner meeting for the South Baltic OFFER project was held in which the contributing project partners got together to formalize their common objectives. In the presence of Mayor Rasmussen, all 10 project partners from Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Lithuania, and Germany signed the partnership agreement, signifying the official start of the project.

The participants agreed on a 3-year partnership with the objective of advancing the development of offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea. A further aim is to better integrate companies in the respective regions in industrial projects in order to strengthen the local value chain. The promotion and development of training projects specifically for offshore technicians will be an additional focal point.

The supporting public relations efforts will play a significant role in achieving these objectives. More understanding and acceptance needs to be created in the Baltic Sea region, in order for the topic of offshore wind energy to gain additional interest among the general public and business community. The creation of an offshore information center will further these intentions. In the long term, awareness will be raised among investors, especially from Eastern Europe, for the sustainable potential of this industry.

The South Baltic OFFER project is funded by the EU at an amount of 2 million Euros within the Interreg IV A South Baltic Programme. Rostock Business is the Lead Partner and project coordinator. Since 2009, Rostock Business has been acting as manager of the Wind Energy Network e.V., and has been active in the development of the offshore wind energy industry since 2004. Christian Weiß, Managing Director of Rostock Business comments: “With this new task, Rostock Business is moving forward with its successful development of the offshore wind energy industry. We are pleased to initiate this strong network of international partners for the advancement of the offshore wind industry.”
