SUZLON Energy GmbH, with offices in Rostock, Hamburg and Berlin, has taken a further significant step towards strengthening its commitment to the Hanseatic City of Rostock. The company is converting and modernizing Hall 245 and adding an additional 2 floors. The resulting 3,800-m² office space will accommodate the projected growth of the company from its current 110 employees to 160. The project was planned by the architecture firm Pilote, and will be executed with local construction companies. Suzlon plans to move in to the new building in the second half-year 2010.
“Rostock has very good conditions for high-tech companies”, explains Wolfgang Conrad, head of the Rostock office. “As an engineering company, we plan, develop, and design wind power plants. The dynamic growth of the wind energy industry is the reason we are expanding our operations. The close cooperation with Rostock Business and the individual administrative offices of the Hanseatic City of Rostock and the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have made it possible to plan and get approval of our construction project in such a short time”.
Rostock Mayor Roland Methling views Suzlon’s move as an indicator for the potential of the entire greater economic region: “The demands of international business on local companies are continually increasing. In order to maintain the success of the wind energy industry in the Rostock region, it is important to offer attractive conditions. With the expansion of Suzlon, Rostock is advancing its position as a leading location for wind energy, and is making a name for itself internationally as an innovative, high-tech region.”
Suzlon is able to look back on one of the most successful company histories of the industry: Since its founding in 1995 as a producer of small wind power generators for the Indian market, the company was able to develop itself into the world’s fifth largest wind power plant producer in just a few years. Every tenth wind turbine erected in the world was produced by Suzlon in its facilities in China, India or the USA. Suzlon’s Rostock offices have made significant contributions to this success, as the development of wind power plants and their components has always been centered in Rostock. The corporation employs 14,500 people worldwide.
