Rostock is the location of one of Europe’s most modern shipyards – the Wadan Yards Warnow GmbH. Innovative shipbuilding concepts have been developed and implemented here. The experienced gained in the segment construction method is used for the continual optimization of the design of the ship. The product portfolio ranges from container ships to special ships for various customer groups.
The NEPTUN WERFT GmbH shipyard specializes in the construction of river cruise ships and segment construction.
The SMG Werft AG shipyard produces yachts in Rostock.
The Rostock-based AIDA Cruises is a cruise shipping company and tour operator offering fascinating holiday trips to destinations such as the Mediterranean Sea, the Canary Islands, the North Sea and Baltic Sea, the Caribbean Sea and Central America. AIDA Cruises is the market leader in Germany according to both turnover and number of passengers. The fleet currently consists of five club ships: AIDAcara, AIDAvita, AIDAaura, AIDAbella and AIDAdiva. The fleet will be complemented by two additional ships by 2010.
With the start of production at the Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock crane production facility, Rostock was pleased to welcome another international industrial player. Due to the high demand on international markets, the company is planning additional investments in the two-digit-millions and further creation of jobs.
Numerous small and mid-sized enterprises are also active in the maritime industry. Lightweight constructions made of plastics and metal are produced in Rostock, not only for use in shipbuilding, but in the construction of aircraft as well. Numerous IT service providers and electronics companies develop solutions for the growing market for electronics and computer controlled processes onboard ships.
