Ocean Technology Campus

The future of subsea technology

With the Ocean Technology Campus, an international center for subsea technology is being established at the Rostock port area “Fischereihafen”, which is to place itself at the top of the global competition. This will close a decisive gap in the development of future-oriented digital marine technologies in the business locations Germany & Rostock.

An underwater test field in the Baltic Sea - the "Digital Ocean Lab" (DOL) - will provide research and industry with realistic testing opportunities for new subsea technologies. Starting from an artificial reef off Nienhagen, several test areas for different scenarios will be created under the direction of Fraunhofer IGD. The "Ocean Technology Campus" will be built around the land-based control center of the new subsea test field. On the site of the Rostock freight and fishing port, it creates a productive environment in which seaworthy high technology can be developed and tested, which will be done in close cooperation between research from different disciplines and industry. Successful technology transfer should be even more successful due to the physical proximity, lead faster and more successfully to innovations and help Rostock to play a leading role on the international technology markets.
